Alumni gather at the Tribes House February 2006

The 2004 Alumni Production

The Alumni made another bold artistic response to our country’s (fear obsessed) socio-political environment by creating a three woman show called:  Blanket of Fear.  Created by Emy Johnston, Michaela Leslie-Rule, Angel Taherazer, and director J. Paul Preseault, Blanket of Fear told the story of three women whose lives came crashing together through the legal system and beyond.  Their hardened positions in life and issues of race, culture and the present state of our civil rights, clashed in a holding cell haunted by the ghosts of our country’s history of fear as a coercive power.  Blanket of Fear performed a number of times in Western Washington from February to September, made a late night trip to Yakima, and ventured south to Corvallis Oregon where we performed three shows in one day for over 1,500 people.

Why Wake of the Horse?

The 2003 Alumni Ensemble adapted Euripides’ Trojan Women in response to our country rushing into yet another war (in Irag). Unfortunately, more and more countries are experiencing war first hand as we move into the 21st Century. Terrible memories of destruction are fresh and vivid; the direct aftermath of war poses two courses of action—revenge or reconciliation. We honor those who suffer the devastation of war by listening to their stories. It is our intention through this production to honor and give hope to all people by presenting a complex, yet universal tale of war that ultimately questions: at what price does so-called victory come?

Wake of the Horse featured: Cynthia Brothers, Cameron Brown, Colleen Creegan, Yvette Davenport, Alysia Del Fierro, Michael Helde, Emy Johnston, Cody Lewis, Jason Morris, Imani Sims, Julia Sirna-Frest, and Angel Taherazer.
